Why the Dinosaur?

Folks often ask how we came up with our name and logo. Here is the story. In 1999 we pondered purchasing an existing business that sold used children's clothes. The price of purchasing the whole business was too much, so we decided to start something from scratch. I always wanted some sort of "dry goods" store so we started with that part of the name. We chose "Dinosaur" because it sounded good with "Dry Goods" and because dinosaurs are old but still loved. I had the idea for the logo of a dinosaur with a clothesline from neck to tail and I worked long-distance with a designer who was always faxing the most wonderful creative doodles. I asked her if she could doodle me a dinosaur. She said she was too busy, but there it was (as above) on the fax machine the next morning.

I loved it...except for the scary face. So the next morning, on the fax machine was this selection of faces to choose from. I owe Jodi a huge thanks for this logo even though we've long stopped selling kids' clothes, we can't seem to leave the fun logo behind.

I don't really decorate for Christmas...

Some collections have evolved into holiday-appropriate displays.

And the kitchen is green with red accents year-round.

And glitter is always fun. We put these up last year and never took them down.

There aren't may vintage linens that I can resist. Didn't realize I had so many red napkins.

The meditation frog gets a different had as the seasons change.

Always wanted to try this.
Peace and Love to all!

Woman's Suffrage Calendar 2014

This wonderful museum is just down the road from us.
Their calendar is bundle of great images and historical facts.

Keep up to date while remembering the past.  The Howland Stone Store Museum 2014 Woman's Suffrage Calendar reflects the tenacity of the seventy-two year long struggle to get the vote and highlights the contributions of Miss Isabel Howland of Sherwood, New York in that struggle.  Month by month, view a vintage poster and explore the birthdays of suffragists.  Learn of Isabel Howland's involvement in suffrage activities at the local, state and national levels and see how she continued to enhance the community of Sherwood.  [Discover the achievements of two Sherwood women whose lives were committed to equality for everyone through education and woman's suffrage.]
